Mfast

I'm slowly trying to gather information about IBM's new DSP technology Mfast. Most of what is here, I've read or heard from people and I hope that it is accurate but I can't guarantee it. If you have any information about Mfast that you would like to contribute please email me.

Mfast stands for Mwave Folded Array Signal Transform and is a parallel VLIW DSP with a high level of performance. It is reported to be able to handle at least 10 billion 16 bit operations per second and at least five billion single-precision floating point operations per second. Applications of the Mfast DSP include 3-D graphics, multi-standard video, digital TV, and video conferencing. Additional information reports that this DSP array has twenty 32 bit processors on a chip and at 50 MHz carries out 10 BOPS (billion operations per second). I believe 33MIPS on the MDSP2780 is equivalent to 99MOPS.
